Taking Care of the Environment

Long ago Native Americans practiced the Leave No Trace philosophy in order to protect the environment. The basic principle of the Leave No Trace philosophy is to leave areas BETTER than when you found them.

While I am outdoors, what can I do to take care of the environment?

  • Pick up trash even if it's not yours.
  • Stay on the trails. Going off trail damages plants and can also affect places where animals find food and shelter.
  • Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them.
  • Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, and exposes them to predators and other dangers.
